Hanoi, 10.1.2011: German journalist meets Miss Vietnam

It”s been only two days that I, Nadine Albach (32), german journalist from Dortmund’s newspaper “Westfaelische Rundschau”, arrived here in Hanoi – and today, suddenly, I had the chance to interview Miss Vietnam 2010 Dan Thi Ngoc Han. I am participating at a journalistic programme from the german Goethe Institute, eager to get to know the life in Hanoi. It is my first time in Vietnam, even in Asia, and it is very interesting and exciting – especially to get the chance to talk to the most beautiful woman of Vietnam. I met her at the press conference of Tienphong daily concerning the “Red Sunday” project, aiming to animate young people to donate urgently needed blood.
I must confess it is my first time to meet a Miss like her and I am surprised of how kind, patient and relaxed Dang Thi Ngoc Han is although a lot of people want to talk to her, take her picture or get her autograph. She is no diva at all, as one could suspect in her position – but even when she freezes because of the cold temperature during the interview, she kindly asks for her coat. “Beauty”, Dang Thi Ngoc Han tells me, “is something from inside a human being. I want to help to make peoples lifes a little bit better. Hand in hand, we can work out the best for our society.” Thus, she realistically knows that she can”t change the problem of not enough blood being donated for vietnamese health services – “but I hope we can have a small efect as so many famous young people are supporting the project.”
Dang Thi Ngoc Han is a modern young woman, not only fulfilling her duties as Miss Vietnam but also finishing her fashion design studies, wanting to visit Europe afterwards. She tells me that she hopes to learn a lot from what she experiences during her time as Miss Vietnam. Her eyelids are shimmering with rose eye shadow while she smiles. Dang Thi Ngoc Han knows that being Miss World is a position almost every young vietnamese women dreams of – and she takes responsibility as a role model. “For me it is important to always keep this in mind. This way, I am always careful with everything I am doing in public.”
