What do you mean with Self-Study?

Our German courses with a self-learning component support your learning goals through a balanced combination of weekly live group sessions (50%) and independent online learning (50%) on our online learning platform, with continuous support from the teacher. All course materials are integrated into the digital platform. We offer the standard course in 10 weeks with one live session per week, or the intensive course in 5 weeks with two online sessions per week. No extra material needed. You will have access to our online platform, where you will find the online portion of the course. This section includes engaging learning activities, online flash cards to study vocabulary, and summary explanations of all important grammatical structures and phrases you will encounter. Your instructor will assign weekly exercises intended to be completed at your own pace within a given week. These exercises will prepare you for the online live sessions in which you will meet with your classmates. You will complete most online activities individually, but they will also include interactive tasks where you will engage with the entire learning group. These group activities may include posting about your hobbies, interests or upcoming events while also interacting with classmates by leaving comments on their posts.

What are levels A1, A2, B1, B2 and C1?

Our German courses are based on the levels defined in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Level Consists of sublevels A1 A1.1, A1.2, A1.3 A2 A2.1, A2.2, A2.3 B1 B1.1, B1.2, B1.3, B1.4 B2 B2.1, B2.2, B2.3, B2.4 C1 C1.1, C1.2, C1.3, C1.4 In order to complete a sublevel, receive a "Certificate of Participation," and advance to the next level, you must successfully complete at least 70% of all requirements (attendance at live meetings, independent study on the learning platform, and homework). If your goal is to pass an exam, we recommend completing all sublevels in the exam level before you register. For example, in order to take the A1 exam, we recommend completing A1.1, A1.2, and A1.3.

What are the technical requirements for the course?

Mac, PC or laptop Headset with microphone Stable internet connection with sufficient bandwidth, especially for the virtual live sessions The prerequisite for participation is the visual presence of all participants and therefore a functioning and switched-on camera for everyone throughout all live online sessions.

Do I need to purchase any textbooks?

Only for the book-based courses , you will need course materials, which must be ordered by the course participants at an additional cost. The language course office will provide the link to the material to be ordered in good time before the course starts.

How many students will be in my course?

Your course will have 6-16 students.

In our book-based online German courses (German Online Live Book-Based), you will learn German in one or two weekly live sessions with other learners, depending on the course. You will also be given some tasks to complete outside the classroom.
