Gesche Joost in North America

Gesche Joost, President of the Goethe-Institut, embarked on her inaugural trip outside Europe, visiting North America from February 22 to March 6. Her tour included stops at the Goethe-Institut offices in Mexico City, Washington, D.C., and New York.

Germany and the United States of America have a long-standing friendship. In an interview, the newly appointed president of the Goethe-Institut Gesche Joost emphasized the importance of this decades-old transatlantic partnership. As a community of shared values, people in both democracies contribute to mutual understanding and cooperation. Building upon these relations, cementing these ties, and sharing knowledge through language and culture is the mission of the Goethe-Institut across the US. “Through our work we can make tangible what democracy and living in an open society means.”, Gesche Joost pointed out in an interview for the GEGENÜBER magazine during her first journey to the US in her new role in March 2025.
